The Announcement ## What Changed on August 1, and What Didn't Lumen no longer sells or renews business voice, including SIP trunking, Voice Complete, and hosted voice for Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Partners report that PRI, POTS, and toll-free are affected too, but Lumen hasn't published a full list, so check your contract. The change applies to accounts billed as CenturyLink, Qwest, or Embarq. Your current service keeps working. Lumen hasn't announced a shutdown date. The deadline that matters is your own contract end date: when your term is up, there is no Lumen voice product to renew into. That gives you time to plan, and a decision to make about where your fax lines go. Lumen's T.38 doesn't run Error Correction Mode (ECM), the part of the fax protocol that catches a corrupted page and sends it again. Without ECM, a page can arrive damaged and neither side is alerted. Most of the carriers you'll evaluate as a replacement are voice carriers too. Some pass T.38 to an upstream carrier they don't control. Others run it on gateways built for voice. Either way, you can end up with the same fax problems on a different carrier.
